We have been officially potty training for over a week now and each day is getting better. It's quite the climate change when you start potty training. Before I changed Trey every couple of hours unless he had pooped and we went about our day. We could go to the store when we wanted to...we go shopping all day if we wanted to....we went for super long walks if we wanted to......Now we're on Trey-Man's potty schedule and I'm not going to lie...I was starting to feel a little like a crazy lady that has been locked up.
Here's what we have been doing for Trey's potty training:
-Trey goes to straight to big boy underwear when he wakes up. We have been just letting him run around in his skivvies since we sit on the potty so often.
-He only wears his diapers when he naps and sleeps. We did wear a diaper today on an outing, since we had a big grocery list and he's not comfortable on the big toilets yet. He has made it on four other outings in just his underwear with no accidents! Yay Trey! :)
-At first we put him on the potty every 30 minutes. Now he tells us when he needs to go, so he's on there way less...probably every 1 1/2- 2 hrs.
-Trey gets an M&M each time he pees. One for pee, two for poop. This is very special for him since we never give him sweets unless it's a holiday nor does he get juice. He will thank us one day. :)
-We have yet to master pooping on the toilet. He doesn't quite get the concept of actually sitting down since he's used to squatting in his diaper. What a mess!
In conclusion, I must thank my friend and neighbor Katie for all of her tips. She had her little guy potty trained before he was two, so she's kind of my inspiration. :) Our goal is to have Trey full potty trained by the time Brohdy arrives. Potty training is messy (especially with a boy,) scary, time consuming and exhausting, but it's so worth it when Trey claps and yells yay after he pees in the potty. He is just too adorable in his underwear to turn back now. We have a ways to go, but each day gets easier! I will keep you updated on this adventure. Wish us luck! :)

Yay for potty training! The best tip I can give ya is once you decide to go nights without diapers; never turn back. It will mean lots of messes (you may want several extra sheets) but it's the best way for them to learn there's no safety guard to just "do it in" anymore.
ReplyDeleteGood luck! I know you'll do great!
YAY!! Good job!! I think going poop on the toilet is hard for all little guys. Erin didn't like that at all.
ReplyDeleteThat's how I feel about pull-ups and diapers...once you go to Undies you can't really turn back. I think that it will be awhile before we do night training....that's going to be such a task. :) Thanks for the advice!
ReplyDeleteTrey went poop twice on the potty today. Hooray! :)
